Obituary For Robert Wallace Rehmet, M.D.

Robert Wallace Rehmet, M.D, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on September 29, 2026.

Bob, known as Bunny to his childhood friends, was born in Harlingen, Texas, on September 7, 1939, and was the eldest child of Jesse Louis Rehmet and Margaret DeShong Rehmet, now deceased. Bob was blessed to have a sister, Mollie Lucinda Rehmet Cannady, who predeceased him as well.

The family moved to Sherman in 1943 when Mr. Rehmet acquired the local International Harvester Company store. Bob greatly enjoyed growing up in Sherman, graduating from Sherman High School in 1957 and then Austin College in 1961. Bob then attended medical school at the University of Texas – Galveston graduating in 1966. Bob served in the Navy on the USS Barrett during the Vietnam War practicing medicine in San Diego and Vietnam through 1971. Bob valued military service and in the 1980’s enlisted in the active reserves serving in the 14 th Marines. Bob was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Bob retired with the rank of Commander.

After serving in Vietnam, Bob completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Washington in Seattle before settling in Dallas where he practiced medicine at Baylor University Medical Center for the remainder of his career. Bob was instrumental in the successful launch of the first Baylor SurgiCare ambulatory surgical facility in the mid- 80s, which was a novel concept at Baylor at the time. Bob retired in 2003 and returned to Sherman, where he lived with his beloved dogs, surrounded by family.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Michael McLean Rehmet and Christopher Beall Rehmet; Michael’s wife, Gina Quijada Rehmet, and their children Caleb McLean Rehmet and wife Olivia, Connor James Rehmet and wife Rylee, Ian Hunter Rehmet and wife Maria; Christopher’s wife, Claire Tate Rehmet, and their children Robert Tate Rehmet and Houston Beall Rehmet. Bob is also survived by four great- grandchildren: Gabriel and Solomae Rehmet and Nektarios and Damianos Rehmet.

A visitation will be held at Dannel Funeral Home on October 8, 2026, from 9 to 10am. A private family burial will be held at West Hill Cemetery.
