Obituary For Robin Ray

Robin Ray died at Texoma Medical Center on June 22, 2018, from complications following colon surgery. She had been living at Focused Care of Sherman for about 5 years, following a stroke in April 2012. Dannel Funeral Home has charge of Robin's cremation arrangements. She was born Robin Nell Werner on May 30, 1948, to William “Bill” Werner and Virginia Wharff Marlow, and raised throughout Texas and Louisiana. She grew up loving all things western, loved to ride, and later in life owned and showed several thoroughbreds that won blue ribbons and made her proud. She also doted on the many schnauzers she adopted over the years, always a fixture in her household. Her life had highs and lows, lots of hard work and moving around. She was incredibly neat and organized, always had a firm opinion, loved her family and friends, fought hard against giving up. And everyone laughed at her lifelong rivalry with her sister over who could best sing “Bobby McGee.” She married Odis P. Ray in September 1995 and they moved to Walnut Creek Resort in Gordonville, TX. They loved their time there, living on the shore of Lake Texoma. OP died in 2008 and Robin remained for four more years, working as a horse broker for buyers and sellers throughout the West. She loved her part in finding happy endings for the horses. Robin was previously married to Paul David Powell of Athens, Ohio, who was the father of her four children. They are Christopher, David, Laura, and Steve, all of whom gave her grandchildren. They all survive her. She also leaves behind one brother, Steve Werner of Ogden, Utah, and several wonderful nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband (OP), parents, sister Kate, one niece (Candee Jeane), one nephew (Mark Werner). We would like to thank the folks who were kind and helpful to Robin in her late-life struggles: Bill Kaven and his daughter Kayia, Dr Deborah Fisher, and the staff at Focused Care. Robin was very specific about her wishes for a remembrance at her passing. Her ashes will be scattered on her favorite riding trail and there will be a simple graveside service at the Gordonville cemetery on July 14 at 2 pm, just a few hymns, stories, and fellowship. Everyone who would like to say goodbye is welcome. You may sign the online register book at www.Dannelfuneralhome.com.
