Obituary For Roger Calhoun

A Memorial Gathering for Roger Glenn Calhoun, 69, of Sherman, will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Roger passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at UT Southwestern Clements University Hospital in Dallas, Texas after losing his battle to cancer.

Roger was born in Bonham, Texas on December 5, 1951 to Paul and Joyce McEwen Calhoun. He was the second of four children; Rosemary, Rickie, and Patrick. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1970 and joined the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Roger attended East Texas State University in Commerce and got his mathematics degree. Roger married the love of his life, Bonita Ann Baker in 1989 and had two beautiful children, Stephanie and Connor. Roger officially retired from the United States Postal Service in 2005, but his main focus was trying to mathematically solve the mystery of the Texas Lottery.

Roger was a master of random trivia and statistical analysis. He had a brilliantly creative mind and a passion for making the world a better place to live. He was an avid bridge player and a bowler in his younger days, but he has always been generous to a fault to everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor which could be considered quirky and off beat. He was content and always loving with his family and with the simple things in life. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and everyone who had the chance to know him.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Bonnie; two children: Stephanie Aguilar and husband Jose of Sherman, and son Connor Calhoun of Sherman; granddaughter, Evelia; step-daughter, Tara Baker of Sherman; sister, Rosemary Calhoun of Sherman; two brothers, Rickie Calhoun of Sherman and Patrick Calhoun and husband Curtis Glenn of Irving, mother in law, Claire Baker of Sherman and sister in law, Cathy Baker of Sherman, and many nieces and nephews.

The family requests that everyone attending the gathering wear face masks due to family members with compromised immune systems. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roger’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).

You may sign the online guestbook at www.Dannelfuneralhome.com.

I was so sorry to hear of Roger's untimely passing. Roger was such a loving man. He was my first steady boy friend in high school. I always thought of him with fond memories. My deepest sympathies to your family. Stella Nehen (Yarbrough)
