Ronald Silver Nickels, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed away on October 22, 2025. Born in Matoy, Oklahoma, Ron was the youngest son of Oscar and Cora Nickels.

He graduated from Bokchito High School in 1964, where he played basketball and baseball and was active in FFA. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1970.

Ron married Teri Stancil on February 25, 1978, and they shared 47 wonderful years in Irving, Plano, Waco, Tyler, Sherman, and Durant. He was an active member of Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving. Later, he was involved in Great Days of Service, Doughboys, and was a founding member of the Asbury Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in Sherman. He was on the board of trustees for the renovation of the church in 2017. He served on the board at Home Hospice.

Ron began his career with Texas Power & Light in 1970 and remained with the company through its transitions until retiring in 2003. He was known for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic throughout his 33-year career.

Ron loved playing golf, watching basketball and football, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. He loved to buy and sell tractors, equipment, and anything else he thought was a good deal. He appreciated old cars, traditions, and reminiscing about the way things used to be. His happiest moments were often at the farm, tending to his cows and enjoying the quiet beauty of the land he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife Teri, son Chad Nickels, daughter Amber Easterling, grandson Gibson Easterling, and brother Boyd Nickels, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Delena and Betty, and brother Ray.

He will be remembered for his honesty, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bill Waldrip, Dwight Royal, Bobby Bazzell, Larry Williford, Avos Stancil, Jim Bell. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Asbury Sunday School class and the Husbands of the Sisters of the Skillet.

Ron loved to laugh and I provided many for him by having to help me out of many scrapes like getting the tractor stuck in the ditch. lol Ron loved his kids, grandson, and Teri. He put them first and was fiercely loyal. Always up for a party and good times. I thank him for being a great spiritual leader to all of us in the Asbury class. I will miss you Ron and that hearty laugh. Jennifer Swick

Ron was one of the kindest, fun, upstanding men and Christians I've ever known. Both he and Teri made Freddie and I feel welcome and like friends from the first time we met them. He was a treasure and will be greatly missed.
