Obituary For Rory Lee Dunkle

Rory Lee Dunkle passed away on June 30th, 2023 in Pottsboro, Texas, he was 65 years young.

Rory was born on March 17th (yes St Patrick's Day) of 1958 in sunny California to James and Barbara Dunkle. He was born with a full head of red hair, which was a telling sign of things to come. Rory was always big, to the point that his older brothers would have him rough up kids their age for sport, but in a joking way. He also had a heart of Gold and would always give freely to those around him. He cared for and genuinely loved those around him, to the point he dismantled his mother's engine one day after he overheard James and Barbara arguing fearing she would leave.

During his working years, he was a heavy diesel mechanic for the oil fields and shops, then became a truck driver to "see the country." As he settled down, he "retired" only to still help people around Texoma work on their shop projects.

Rory moved to Pottsboro, Texas in the 80's and fell in love with the lake life and with Texoma. He dressed up as Santa Claus for years around Pottsboro and was very active in our local Toys 4 Tots program. Helping out and giving back gave him joy, and he had an even softer spot for kids in need.

Those who knew Rory will miss his laugh, his jokes, and how he was always there to help no matter the time or situation. Although he was a large and imposing man, those who knew him knew that he was a gentle giant.

Rory is preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara Dunkle, and his brother, Steve Dunkle.

Rory is survived by his son, Eric Dunkle; grandsons: Benjamin, Zachary, and Brantlee Dunkle; brother, Tony Dunkle and wife Penny Dunkle and their family; Steve's wife, Susan Dunkle and her son.

In his memory go out and help someone in need with no expectation of anything in return. Be sure to get those in need, and spread the loved that he embodied so well.

Met Rory In 1992 and worked for many years with him in Toys for Tots! Truer words cannot be spoken about Rory than the ones mentioned here. I will always remember him for that beautiful laugh and heart. Good man gone way to soon but I rest in knowing that he has joined Jim and Barb and Steve, and he is no longer struggling! Love ya Rory!
