Obituary For Roy Edward Hopson

Roy Edward Hopson was born July 16, 1939, in Sherman, Texas. He was a graduate of the Class of 1958 at Sherman High School. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Roy was a very patriotic man until his very last day. The many veterans’ organizations he was a member of included: VFW Post 2772, American Legion Post 231, serving as AMVETS Commander of District 7 for 2 terms, and being active in veterans’ organizations for over 55 years. He was a member of DAV as well as a member of the Elks Lodge.

He has a lot of different jobs starting very young in life including the restaurant and bar business, driving school buses for Sherman Independent School District as well as driving for TAPS Public Transit.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Eula Sue Hopson, brothers Stanley, Richard, and Charles Hopson and sisters Carol Jean Holder and Paula Hopson. He is survived by his daughter; Tona Shiplet and husband James of Whitewright, brother, Larry Hopson of Sherman; 5 sisters: Reba Hopson, Donna Brown, Pam Hurley, Beverly Hopson, and Sharon Kring; he is also survived by 2 granddaughters, Rebekah Fenner and husband George and Robyn Shiplet both of Whitewright.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park at 10:00 AM.
