Obituaries

Ruth Lucille Summers, 78 of Sherman, Texas, passed away on August 5, 2025 in Sherman, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Monday August 11, 2025 at First United Methodist Sherman with Rev. Denise Peckham, of First United Methodist Sherman, officiating. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home.

Ruth Lucille Summers was born in Delaware, Ohio to Karl and Mary Starkey on February 2, 1947. She went to school at Delaware Hayes. She married Ben Summers on December 25, 1973 in Delaware, Ohio in her parent’s home. She graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She worked in quality assurance at Fisher Control in McKinney, and Sherman Texas. She was involved in United Methodist Women, Home Hospice Auxiliary, Stratford Club, Asbury Sunday School Class, She was an avid advocate for animals. She was Valedictorian of her College class received.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Ben, her sister Edna Cox, and brother in-law Harold Cox, her sister Helen Starkey and parents Karl and Mary Summers.

Ruth is survived by her niece Christal Bacon, nephew Scott Cox, great niece Devynn Delap and great nephew Logan and great niece Taylor and several cousins and aunts and uncles.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Nickels, Bill Waldrip, Jim Lough, Hagan Manning, John Ryan, and Gil Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist church or Home Hospice Auxiliary.

The family of Ruth Summers wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses, and aides of Home Hospice, Rev. Denise Peckham, Lisa Dunlop and all those that brought food and loving friendship.
