Obituary For Sara Lou Butterworth

A Celebration of Sara Butterworth will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas, at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Caleb Fleming and Pastor Reid Kirk will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Akers Cemetery. Dannel Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Sara Lou Deloris Ellis Butterworth went to meet her Savior on Wednesday March 1, 2023. Sara was born in Hope, Arkansas to Charles and Ruth Ellis on January 18, 1941. Although the record indicates the 19th, Sara maintained that her real birthday was the 18th.

Sara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family came to call her “OGIE” because she was the “Original Grandma” and the anchor of the family. Her friends to everyone who knew her saw her as a giving, caring and loving soul. She worked as an administrative assistant for businesses and churches and after moving to Sherman Texas, she worked at Texas Instruments where she met and married Walt Butterworth. Sara was always interested in learning and later in life she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University. She attended Bible Study Fellowship classes also teaching children’s classes. She was a faithful servant as a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a volunteer at True Options Pregnancy Center in Sherman since its inception.

Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Ellis, siblings Lindol Ellis, Pansy Mandeville, Nelda Carroll, and James Ellis. She is Survived by her husband Walt Butterworth, children Rhonda Pryor and husband Keith, Rick Rothwell and wife Julie, grandchildren Beth Rizkal and husband Mike, Levi Smith and wife Shaneigh, Matthew Smith, Anna Edmonds and husband Clint, and Sara Rothwell. Great Grandchildren Tommy and Hannah Rizkal and Charlotte Smith, and “Baby Edmonds” expected in August, sister Marguerite Downs, and Walt’s sons and family that she loved as her own; David Butterworth, wife Jami and children Jessica, Jacie and Jaxon and Art Butterworth, wife Leslie and children Dillion, Dalton and Delaney and great- grandson Colter, along with many nieces and nephews.
