Obituary For Scott Hayden Peck

Scott Hayden Peck, devoted husband, father, son, and brother passed away on August 17, 2023. Scott was born June 8, 1964 in Portland, Oregon to Myron Hayden Peck, II, and Marilyn Joy Campbell. Growing up in an Air Force family, Scott got to live in many different places throughout his childhood, including Goose Bay, Labrador, Brookfield, Connecticut, and Lubbock and Dallas, Texas.

Scott graduated from Texas Tech University in Design Communications. He owned Scott Peck Design and was a Creative Director for most of his career, providing award-winning marketing and design services for a wide range of business, municipal, non-profit and educational clients. He was also a talented illustrator and illustrated stories for The Friend magazine, Highlights for Children, Horse & Rider, Scholastic and Sports Illustrated for Kids.

He met the love of his life, Jacqui Hayden, on a blind date set up by Scott’s best friend’s mother and Jacqui’s mother. Scott was a private pilot and Jacqui a student pilot. They spent many wonderful times taking trips in the Cessna 172. They were married October 14, 1989 in the Dallas, Texas Temple. They lived in Plano, Texas for twelve years. Their three children, Taylor Marie Peck, Samantha Paige Peck and Cole Hayden Peck were born there. In 2001 they moved to the family pecan farm in Bells, TX, where they enjoyed fishing in the pond, going on long walks on the trails with their dogs Bogey and Freckles, watching the sunset from their front porch, and harvesting pecans in the fall. Scott was a dedicated and present father, raising his kids with love, wisdom, and humor.

Scott was a steadfast disciple of Jesus Christ. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served faithfully in many church callings including Bishop, High Counselor, Public Affairs Director, and Young Men Leader. The calling he most enjoyed was teaching the twelve-year-old youth. Scott was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. His trips to Philmont Scout Ranch as a youth and later as a leader were some of his most treasured adventures.

Scott loved the outdoors. His favorite places to be were hiking in the San Juan Mountains, staying at the family cabin in Red River, New Mexico, canoeing the Buffalo River with a fishing pole in hand, flying in the Cessna 172, taking family vacations in Maui, Hawaii, and exploring Chile and Switzerland with his son Cole. Landscapes from his travels often served as the inspiration behind the beautiful paintings he created.

Scott is survived by his wife, Jacqui; three children, Taylor, Cole and Samantha; his brother, Glenn Peck and wife Indiara; sister, Melissa Dean; and his father, Myron Hayden Peck, II. along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Peck.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sherman, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Dr. Michael Courtwright will officiate. Interment will the service at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.

I remember Scott as a very nice person and friendly. Our paths almost crossed in Portland Oregon . Scott was born there while in was a F 102 radar tech in the Air Force but left Portland to go to college. Scott was interested in ham radio and being a ham my self I helped him with that. I enjoyed my time I spent with him. Bill Pierce

Scott and his son Cole were Home Teaching Partners who taught and ministered to our family for a few years. They came monthly and we could count on it. We always looked forward to it and had very enjoyable visits. Those visits are great memories now, but so are so many other ways he served our family when he was our Bishop, and our friend!!

I had the privilege of working closely with Scott in scouting and high adventures for the older boys in our church. We enjoyed a very fun canoeing trip to Corpus Cristi. I was impressed with how he firmly but lovingly resolved an issue with a young man that was causing some trouble with the group. He pulled the boy aside so as to not embarrass him and let him know that his behavior was not acceptable. He flashed his contagious smile and gave the boy a hug. That solved the issue immediately. He is an amazing man. So many lives have been enriched and blessed by Scott. Many years ago he warmly welcomed my college-aged brother over to his home studio to talk about their shared major, graphic design. His kindness and expertise helped my brother move forward in his career path. I am striving to be more like Scott in many ways. He most certainly will be missed.

I called Scott about a month before he and Jacqui got married to say hello and ask about Jacqui. He was in the middle of painting their house, but being who he is, he stopped painting to visit for a while. He could make me laugh so hard—like the time a year before this phone call, when I called and told him told him "I'm getting married in January!,", and he said "Does the guy know?" 🙃 So, during this phone call, it was pretty much the same, with his quick humor. We discussed music, work, art, and then I asked him about his upcoming marriage, and of course I had to ask "does the girl know?" He laughed so hard!! And then, I asked about her, and although I had known him for 8 years, it was the first time I knew he was absolutely in love. I had never heard him so happy! He was excited and giddy as he told me all about the blond-haired beauty he would marry in October in the temple. Of course, I had to give him a hard time because he had once told me that he wasn't sure he would get married in the temple. But now, here he was, so in love, counting the days to his marriage to Jacqui. It was still him on the phone, but a happier, better version of him. Oh how I loved my friend and loved watching him grow, love and share his life with an amazing woman and have children he loves so much. He shared his great talents and became an incredible servant for the Lord. Truly an example for me of a life well-lived! And then, there are the Mustangs....but that's another story!

Scott was the first friend I can remember after we moved to Dallas. He lived right across the park. I spent many days in their home and in his room, listening to Beatles records. I still remember some of his early illustrations, especially one of a horse he did. Such a wonderful and talented friend.

I met Scott in 1988. Brian and I loved going on double dates with Scott & Jacqui. I remember when Scott took us on a plane ride and it scared me to death but we had the best time. I cut Scott's hair for many years and always enjoyed talking to him. I was in awe of his artistic talents. He designed my business cards for me and I loved how he had an eye for art and looked at things from an artists perspective. He had a great sense of humor and I enjoyed his friendship. Brian and I were talking last week about moving back to Texas and how excited we were to have Scott & Jacqui over for a BBQ. I will treasure our fun memories and friendship. He will be missed very much.
