Obituary For Sherry Nell Gaskill

Sherry Nell Gaskill, 58, of Sherman, passed away on January 13, 2019 in Sherman, Texas. Although she bravely battled colon cancer for the past seven years, this was unexpected and sudden. She has truly fought the good fight. She touched so many people through being a preschool teacher at School for Little People, teaching children’s Sunday school, being an active member of First Methodist Sherman and in the chancel choir, as well as being a strong supporter of Texoma Emmaus Community, and just being Sherry. She loved God, her family, children and nearly everyone she encountered. She made the world a better place by just being in it. We rejoice that she is no longer in pain and discomfort and has gone on to claim her heavenly reward.

Sherry was born in Wharton, Texas to Max Shiflet and Peggy Lois Pool on November 10, 1960. She attended school in Wharton for many years. She graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas. She married Brian Gaskill on November 1, 1986 in Bonham, Texas. They moved to Denton, Texas a year later where they started their family. In 1994, they moved to Sherman where they made their home. She worked as a preschool teacher at School for Little People for over twenty years. She loved working with children and also taught Sunday school for children for many years. She was a member of First Methodist Sherman where she served on many committees for children as well as for worship. She was a faithful member of the chancel choir. She has been a member of Texoma Emmaus Community since 2000 and has served on the Board of Directors. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years.

Sherry is survived by her husband Brian Gaskill of Sherman, daughter Rebecca Gaskill of Sherman, son Matthew Gaskill of Sherman, her sister Peggy Ann Norman and husband David of Leonard, her brother Lee Max Shiflet and Laura Compton of Sherman, her mother Peggy Shiflet of Sherman, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends including special friend and longtime coworker Robbin Rankin. Sherry is preceded in death by her father Max Shiflet.

A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at First Methodist Church, 401 N Elm St., Sherman, TX. The Reverend Chris Dowd will officiate. Burial will follow at Holloway Cemetery, 5515 Luella Rd., Luella, TX.

The family will welcome friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Dannel Funeral Home, 302 S Walnut St., Sherman, TX.

Brian, Becca, and Matthew, I was saddened to hear about Sherry. She was such a sweet & gentle spirit, a loving wife and mother, and a friend to many. From afar, I was amazed at her courage as I read your occasional posts. I have prayed for her and will continue to pray for you all to have strength in this difficult time. May God Bless! Bobby Littlefield
