Obituary For Stephen Gremmels
Stephen Brooks Gremmels age 91 passed away after a short illness. Funeral Mass for Mr. Gremmels will be held on Saturday November 20 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sherman Texas. Father Yoast will officiate. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Stephen was born in Bernardsville NJ to Charles E. And Helen Saltzman Gremmels. He was a graduate of Exeter Academy and attended Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute with a major in aeronautical engineering. His lifelong pursuit of aviation took off when he completed the Master Airplane and Mechanics at Roosevelt Aviation School in Mineola NY in 1940. Steve flew with the Army Air Corps in WWII flying the "Hump" in Burma and ferrying planes for the Air Transport Command. While stationed at Perrin Field in Sherman during the war he married a local girl Mary Head. Flying WWII surplus aircraft Steve"s business of aerial mapping and photography led to the assignment of mapping the land that was to become Lake Texoma. Living for the rest of his life in Sherman Steve had long career as a real estate broker and appraiser in Dallas and Sherman. In the mid-70"s he was elected President of the Dallas Associaton of Professional Appraisers. He in fact performed the original appraisal of Six Flags Over Texas. Never getting too far from flying Steve was the personal pilot for Darrell Royal on numerous scouting trips for University of Texas. Steve from his first marriage had a son Stephen Brooks Gremmels of Ben Wheeler TX and a daughter Cary Gremmels of Dallas TX. His second marriage to Rachel Tallent Gremmels brought 56 years of love to his life and added a son John Glenn Gremmels of Ft. Worth TX as a proud addition to the family. Steve is survived by his wife Rachel son Brooks Gremmels and wife Rese son John Gremmels daughter Cary Gremmels Wall and husband Richard his sister Edith Gremmels Burrows of Maine four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many other family members and friends. We will all miss him so much. Salud amor dinero.
