Obituary For Thelma Jewel Inman

Thelma Jewel Brisco Inman, 98, passed from this life to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, December 23, 2021, in Sherman, Texas at Pecan Point Assisted Living Facility.

She was born December 18, 1923, at Leon Junction, in Coryell County, Texas, to Thomas Joshua and Ettie Pearl (Wafer) Brisco.

She attended Sherman schools and later, Bible Baptist College, in Springfield, Missouri. She married Ira Ross Inman, February 28, 1942 and he became her sweetheart and best friend for 78 years and 11 months. In 1953 she and her husband moved back to Texas. Where she worked at Collins Radio, and later at Texas Instruments in both Dallas and Sherman where she eventually retired.

They bought a farm in Colbert, Oklahoma and lived there 20 years. She and Ira both worked and managed the farm together, then moved back home to Sherman in 1980.

They started back to the Grayson Bible Baptist Church, which they attended in the 1940’s before they left Sherman. She and Ira both taught Sunday School. They loved their church and their church family, and never got tired of talking and witnessing for their God and their church. Although God only blessed them with 2 wonderful children and their spouses, He blessed her with many children, grandchildren and friends through her church home and she loved them all. She and Ira were always willing to reach a helping hand to any who needed.

One of Thelma’s many hobbies was collecting recipes and had collected them from about 1938. She liked to cook and always at Thanksgiving and Christmas, would make all her family’s favorite dishes. She also collected angels and had over 160 cookie jars. Both she and Ira were active members of the D.A.V. Post 54, where she served as commander of the ladies auxiliary for 5 years.

After they retired they were members of the Joy Club, traveling by bus each year. They both liked to travel, so they bought a 5th wheel and were members of the Happy Sam’s, the Good Sam’s and the Lake Texoma Sam’s. Thelma would laugh and say she always liked to see over the next hill, so each summer they spent a lot of time in their camper traveling all over the United States. They also visited several other countries. They always said going to the Holy Land was their favorite trip, it just made the Bible come alive, seeing all the places Jesus walked, where He was crucified and the empty tomb, where He was buried.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 brothers and their spouses: Virgil Boyd and wife Lace Lee (Moon) Brisco, Monroe McGuire and wife Syble Laverne (Sartor) Brisco, 2 sisters: Leola Lorine (Brisco) and husband Howard Abner Gossett, Ethel Elizabeth (Brisco) and husbands, Randell Alley and John Saddler, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children: Shirley Jane (Inman) and husband Bernard Jean-Paul Fortin of Sherman, and Ira Eugene Inman and wife Ilona (Buettner) of Denison; 5 grandchildren: James Michael Fortin, Micheline Antoinette (Fortin) and husband Robert Harbaugh, Bernard Jean-Paul Fortin, Jr. and wife Kristina (Beard), Natasha Elaine (Inman) and husband Josh Runyan, and Sabrina Renee Inman; 10 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends at Dannel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, at Grayson Bible Baptist Church at 4400 US 82 at Sherman, Texas at 1:00 PM. Rev. Roy Webster will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.

She was very loved and will be missed by her family, relatives, church family and many friends. With all knowing, she is now in her Heavenly home with God and all her loved ones and friends that were saved.

The family would life to give special thanks to Pecan Point Assisted Living, Advantx Home Health and Guardian Hospice for the wonderful care that was given.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of Donor’s Choice in Mrs. Inman’s name.

We will always remember Mrs. Thelma and Bro. Ira as one of the most loving, caring and compassionate people the Lord ever placed on this earth. It is hard to separate the two and talking about just one as they were so close and married for so many years, but we do remember Mrs. Thelma's coconut pies she brought to church. They were great! We remember how dedicated they were to the church always volunteering and doing whatever they could to help out. They were just good christian people and the world could certainly use a lot more like them. It is comforting to know they are now back together in heaven and some day we will see them again. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
