Obituary For Thurman Hayes

Services for Thurman Ralph (Red) Hayes, 90, of Sherman, who died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkview Church of Christ, Sherman, Texas officiated by Welton Stoker and Rusty Sherry both of the church with son, Dan Owens, Sr. also assisting. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. Joshua - Hopewell Cemetery, Cleburne, Texas. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside. A family visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas. Mr. Hayes was born January 3, 1926 in Lamasco, Fannin County, Texas, the son of Lillian Magourik and Turner Hayes. He is a native of Fannin County and he attended Bonham schools. Mr. Hayes served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 until he received his honorable discharge in March 1946. He served about 25 months in the Phillipines. He married Doris Johnson Hayes on December 14, 1973 in Sherman, Texas. He retired July 31, 1983 after 38 years of employment as a Resident Engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation. Hayes retired with over 38 years of retirement credit to that organization all in the Sherman residency office. He started in the local office as a rodman. He was mostly involved in construction inspection and retired as chief inspector and project supervisor. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Western Heights Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, sons, Danny Clarke Owens, Sr. and wife, Lori, and Donald (Donny) Mark Owens; daughter, Delisa Donnell Nelson; sister, Mary Ada Smith; 10 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. Pallbearers will be Dan Owens, Jr., Aaron Owens, Drew Lewis, Eric Nelson, Kevin Hayes, and Kim Hayes.
