Obituary For Troy Baker

Send Flowers Troy Lee Baker February 15, 1930 - January 27, 2014 Troy Lee Baker, 83, Senior Master Sergeant USAF, Ret., of Sherman, passed away at his residence Monday, January 27, 2014. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31st, at Dannel Funeral Home. Graveside services, with full Military Honors are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 31st at Chapel on the Hill in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. James Petty, Jr. – Grayson County Veteran’s Services Officer. Mr. Baker was born February 15, 1930 in Dallas, TX, to Ernest Merl Baker and Opal Inez Kirby Baker. He attended schools in Grayson County. Prior to graduating from high school, Troy entered the United States Marine Corps. Soon after enlistment, he was reassigned into the Army Air Corps, which would become the United States Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was an aircraft Maintenance Supervisor for the 4080th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. He retired with over twenty-two years of service. He was honored to receive a Bronze Star, as well as the Air Force Commendation Medal. Mr. Baker was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn, Chapter 323 in Sherman. Mr. Baker is survived by his children: Steven Baker and wife Shirley of College Station, Phillip Baker and wife Kimberley of Whitesboro, and Carla Baker Foster and husband Marshall of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren: Suzanne Baker, Stephanie Baker and John McCorkle. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Royce Merl Baker. The Baker family would like to especially thank Dr. David Davis, Dr. Phil Pitts, and the staff of Texas Health Presbyterian/WNJ for their diligence. Also, a special note of appreciation for the Grayson County Patriot Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by memorial donations to the American Heart Assn., at www.heart.org, or the Wounded Warrior Project, at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
