Sherry, Cliff and Family I only got to know Mr Vinson over the past couple of years but he was so kind, gentle and always glad to see us come when we were able to visit him however briefly it was at Springlake. He always wanted a prayer and would pat me gently on the shoulder each time he saw me either at church or at Springlake. He was a gentleman for sure!! I hope your warm memories will help ease his passing. I will miss his warm smile and gentle spirit and our brief visits. Josie Williams

David, I was saddened to learn of the passing of your Dad this morning. You may not remember me, I was a Boy Scout in Troop 303 in McKinney, Texas, in the 1950's where Vinson( Mr. Shields to us) was Scoutmaster. He spent many hours trying to insure that we became better adults. He kept up with my activities later in life and we visited from time to time in Sherman. I have always appreciated his leadership and willingness to lead. Please give my sincere condolences to your family. Jerry Chapman Austin

Kind, caring, dependable, steady, gentle. These are some of the qualities I remember about Mr. Shields. When I was a teenager, he helped me learn how to be an usher at church, how to collect the offerings, pass the hat, present everything at the front of the church during the service. He was someone who was always there, always with a word of greeting and encouragement. He will be greatly missed. We need more like him in this world.
