Obituaries

Virgie Mae Talley, age 102, of Sherman, Texas passed away on November 13, 2024 after a brief illness and stay at Sherman Medical Center, formerly Wilson N. Jones Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Dannel Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at West Hill Cemetery Pavillion on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Pastor Leland Samuelson will be officiating.

Virgie was born in Sherman on January 5, 1922 to Ethel and Charlie Randall. She went to school in Sherman during The Great Depression. Although it was brief, it served her well. She married Durwood Smith, and together they had one son, Darryl. She worked at Hestand Pharmacy. She later married Royal Lee Talley in 1978, who served in the United States Military. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage and life in Grayson County.

Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Smith and Charlie Randall, husband, Royal Lee Talley, son, Darryl Rickey Smith, nephew, Joseph Randall Farry, and an infant brother at birth.

She is survived by sister, Harriett Stranathan, grandchildren, Darryl Smith and Deborah Smith, Nieces, Jan McElroy and Laura Jamieson.

Pallbearers will be Fred Stephens and Randy Price.

The family of Virgie wishes to thank the caring staff of doctors and nurses at Sherman Medical Center as well as the kind and helpful staff of Dannel Funeral Home.
