Obituary For Walter Brice

A memorial service for Boyce Walter Brice will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman. A reception will follow the service at the church. Dannel Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Boyce Walter Brice was born March 11, 1940, in Sherman, and he passed away July 24, 2018, in Denison. His parents were Robert Brice and Viola Everett Brice. He attended Sherman Schools and graduated from Sherman High in 1958. A lifelong Presbyterian, he attended Trinity Presbyterian and then Covenant. Having joined Boy Scouts of America at an early age, he became an Eagle Scout at 17. Survivors include sisters: Mary Ruth Brice of Denison and Nancy Shultz and husband John of Bellevue, Nebraska; niece Melissa Mroczek of Omaha, Nebraska; great nieces and nephew: Mia, Hadley, and Cooper of Omaha; many cousins and friends. One of the hallmarks of Walter’s life was that his passion for the things he believed in. He had a deep-seated belief in God, saying God was always good to him and his family. He was a giver, a committed supporter of the church, and always available for whatever needed to be done. As a “jack of all trades,” he always made sure services ran smoothly at the church and was respected and loved by all. His faith in his church and God undergirded his participation in many everyday activities. He always worked hard to understand and then increase his knowledge about the skills and tools he used. For example, after launching a classic film discussion group as a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian, he was diligent about upgrading the equipment used to present the films. After working for Gary Yost at the Rialto Theatre in Denison, Walter became an integral part of Modern Exploration, Inc., working there for over 30 years and becoming Yost’s chief financial guru and Corporate Secretary. Walter also served on a number of boards, including Habitat For Humanity, MHMR, Stephen F. Ministries and the Board of Review for Eagle Scouts. He was very supportive of Veterans’ organizations, becoming a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #29 in Sherman, and also an Associate Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Before his passing he was presented an American flag by the American Legion and was very appreciative. Walter’s sense of humor, quick wit and the twinkle in his eye were appreciated by all who knew him. His battle with cancer reflected his strong faith, courage and amazing work ethic. Never once did anyone hear him complain--wise cracks--yes, but no complaints. His giving spirit and analytical mind will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Walter's name to: The Joy Class at Covenant Presbyterian Church which was a place that was near and dear to Walter, Boy Scouts of America, or Family Promise.
