The family of Walter Harrell Dean McMillen is deeply saddened to announce his passing on June 25th, 2026. Born on January 30th, 1930 in Eastland, Texas, Walter lived a full and remarkable life. With a humble beginning, shaped by the loss of his mother at a young age, he grew up in Texas before joining the Army. After marrying the love of his life, Judyth Sweet in 1955, he and his bride moved to Alaska where they lived for the next 35 years. Walter’s career as a federal Special Agent earned him early retirement and a move with his wife to Tennessee farm life, then eventually back to Texas where he stayed. Walter’s love for God carried through everything he did, highlighted by his generosity to many churches and missionaries, as well as many years of dedication to Meals on Wheels.

Walter will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Melissa Berry and Martha Van Roy (with her husband, Richard), his grandchildren, Chris Wise, Ryan Wise, May Cochran, Eli Van Roy, and Nova Van Roy, and four great-grandchildren along with many cherished friends.

A celebration of life to be held at Dannel Funeral Home, 302 S. Walnut Street, Sherman, TX 75090, July 9th, 2026, at 9:30 am visitation, 10:00 am service. A brief interment will follow at Celeste Cemetery.

The family is thankful for the many compassionate caregivers at Christian Care Allen who helped Dad feel at home and cared for the last three years. The family also wants to thank Enhabit Hospice for their exceptional care during Dad’s final weeks and days.
