Obituary For Wanda Byrd
Wanda Sue Byrd, 70, of Sherman, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 28th, at Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29th, in Dannel Funeral Chapel. Rev. Raymond England, of Trinity Lighthouse Church in Denison, will officiate. Interment will follow immediately afterward in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Wanda Sue Byrd was born September 29, 1943, in Gober, Texas, the daughter of Sullivan Edward and Mildred Lee Armstrong. She attended Gober schools. She worked many years as a Nurse’s Aide in several area nursing homes, and later as an in-home sitter for the elderly. She took great pride in both of these roles and was loved dearly by all she cared for. She married Lewis Grant Hindsley on November 7, 1961, and later in life, married Robert Byrd. Her main goal in life was to be a great mother and grandma. She was very proud of her family. She was best known for her wonderful skill – and love – of cooking, especially her homemade pies and biscuits. During the years of raising her children, her home became the ‘go-to’ place for all her children’s friends, who also came to love her and called her Mama Sue. Wanda leaves behind her beloved family: sons, Eddie Ray Hindsley and wife Rhonda, Terry Grant Hindsley and wife Diana; daughters, Carolyn Sue Stockton and husband, the late Jay Stockton, Retha Jean Hinkley and husband Jimmy; grandchildren: Blake, Tyler, Rachel, Ryan, Heather, Seth, Kirstyn; great-grandaughter Abigail; sisters Ann Hindsley and Carolyn Patrick; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Lewis Grant Hindsley and Robert Cletus Byrd, brothers Elbert, Lloyd, Luther, Gerald and James Armstrong and sister Jewel McCracken. Wanda touched many lives during her 70 years. To know her, truly was to love her! Pallbearers will be: Blake Stockton, Ryan Stockton, Jimmy Hinkley, Michael Armstrong, Joel Armstrong and Craig Maxwell. Honorary bearers are: Tyler Stockton, of California, Seth Hinkley and Oren Art. The family would be especially honored by memorial donations to Home Hospice of Grayson County, at 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX (75090), or online at www.homehospice.org
