Obituary For Wilma Maxine Thorp - Wigley

Wilma Maxine Thorp-Wigley, 92, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2023.

Maxine was born in Poteet, Texas, to Tom and Opal Thorp on January 4, 1931. She graduated from Center Point High School in Center Point, Texas. She was a youth advisor and social worker for most of her career at the Gainesville State School and Juvenile Alternatives (NTYC) and then a resident advisor at the Grayson County Homeless Shelter. She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence J. Wigley, her parents Tom and Opal Thorp, her daughter Wanda Darlene Kitchens, her sister Wanda Robertis and husband Nick, and her nephews Nick Robertis and Tommy Robertis.

She is survived by her son Donald Smith and wife Davine; her grandchildren: Cyndi Martin and husband Greg, Larry Smith and wife Leslie, Tommy Kitchens and wife Lauryn; her great grandchildren: Jannay, Tiana and husband Cody, Hayden and wife Jamie, Montana, Dax, Landon, Norah, Lane, and Hannah; her great-great grandchild Cooper; her nieces Toni Young and Kari Girard and her nephew Doug Robertis.

She loved going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities and she never forgot a birthday. She will be remembered as Granny by dozens of family friends and was the best dog mom to her puppies Ani and Griff.

The family of Maxine wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Ted Truly and the staff throughout Texoma Medical Center for their care and attention to our lovely Maxine.

The family would like to welcome visitors between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 1 at Dannel Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, November 2 at West Hill Cemetery at the corner of Lamar and Woods in Sherman.
