On September 16th, 2014, Woodie Elwin Murrin was called home by the Lord. Woodie was born in Sherman, Texas on September 22, 1942, to Walter ‘Pete’ Elwin Murrin and Rowenda Wood Murrin. After graduating from Sherman High School, Woodie attended North Texas State University, and then went to work with his father at Murrin’s Paint and Wallpaper located at 110 E. Lamar in Sherman. After selling that business, Woodie worked as a machinist for Oscar Mayer in Sherman and subsequently retired from the company. Not one to sit around, Woodie obtained his Harley-Davidson Ph.D, and became the lead technician for Mike Noles at Sherman Harley-Davidson. His love of mechanical engineering and motorcycles led him and his son, Tim, to open Back Alley Cycles in 2004 at the original location that was once the family business of Murrin’s Paint and Wallpaper. On August 23rd, 1979, Woodie married the love of his life, Pat, and together they would spend the next 35 years exploring life. This exploration took the couple to many places around the world as they enjoyed cruise ships with the family and friends. Woodie is survived by his wife Pat, son Tim and daughter-in-law Carla of Sherman, daughter Misty Casteel of Sherman, step-son Bobby Wilkinson and wife Barbara of Denison, grandchildren Juston Parrott, Lincoln Parrott, Peyton Casteel, Tosha Wilkinson and Cody Casteel Wilkinson. Family night will be held at Dannel Funeral Home located at 302 S. Walnut St. in Sherman on Thursday, September 18th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Back Alley Cycles will also be open at that time for fellowship. A funeral procession of motorcycles and vehicles will leave Dannel Funeral Home on Friday at 12:15 p.m. for Cedarlawn Memorial Park, where Fr. Don Perschall will officiate graveside services. The family invites everyone to participate in one last ride, as Woodie is escorted to his final resting place. Godspeed Pop…You are now in the house of the Lord!
